A Desire to Parent
We struggled with infertility for nearly 7 years before we starting exploring adoption. We didn’t consider it sooner because we didn’t know enough about it and assumed that it was not affordable. We ultimately chose adoption because we wanted to be parents more than we wanted to become pregnant.
The Day the Call Came In
I received a call at work to advise that a birth mother had selected us. I was overcome with emotion and sat at my desk and just cried. It took me a few minutes to pull myself together so I could even speak. I couldn’t wait to get home and tell my husband the news.
Our Son’s Birth
We were in the hospital when our son was born. It was a very emotional experience for us and we felt connected to him immediately. We couldn’t wait to bring him home!
Birth Family and Adoptive Family United
We keep in touch with our birth mother and birth grandparents through texting mostly. I send pictures about every week or so.
We have had several face-to-face visits since our son was born with our birth mom. Most recently we had our first in person visit with the birth mother and the birth grandparents. We reserved a meeting room at a hotel near where birth mom lives and spent the afternoon visiting and allowing them some time to take pictures and hold our son. We exchanged Christmas gifts and had a nice time visiting.
Birth Mom is Valued
I regularly remind our birth mother what an important piece of our life she is and that we are so grateful for her sacrifice. She has changed our lives forever.
