Choosing Adoption: First Steps
What’s Happening Now: You are faced with difficult decisions, no matter what choice you make. In most situations, there are 3 options you can consider:
- Parenting. This means having the baby and becoming a mother. If you choose this option, you will take on the responsibility of raising the child. It can be challenging, but also rewarding. Many parents receive support from family, friends, and community resources to help them provide a loving and caring environment for their child but this isn’t always an option for women.
- Adoption: Choosing adoption means choosing another family who will take care of your baby and become their parents. Adoption allows you to give your child a chance to grow up in a loving and stable home, even if you are not able to provide that yourself. With modern adoption, there are different levels of communication, such as open adoption, where you may have some contact with your child and the adoptive family.
