I Just Found Out I'm Pregnant and I'm Not Ready to Parent

Here’s What the First Call to AAU Actually Looks Like

Finding out you are pregnant when you do not feel ready can turn your world upside down in a matter of seconds. Many women immediately search things like “I’m pregnant, what do I do?” or “What happens when you call an adoption agency?” because they feel scared, overwhelmed, and completely unsure of what comes next.

At All About U Adoptions, we know that making the first call can feel intimidating. Many women hesitate to reach out because they fear being judged, pressured, or pushed into a decision before they are emotionally ready. Some worry they will be treated like a number. Others fear that asking questions somehow locks them into the adoption process.

We want you to know something important right away. Reaching out to us does not commit you to anything. Your first conversation with AAU is simply a safe place to breathe, ask questions, and talk honestly about what is going on in your life.

The First Call Is Usually Much Simpler Than Women Expect

Most women do not call us feeling calm and organized.

Many are crying. Some whisper because they are hiding in a bathroom, car, dorm room, or workplace. Others apologize repeatedly before they even finish their first sentence. A few simply say, “I just found out I’m pregnant and I don’t know what to do.”

That is okay.

You do not need to sound confident, prepared, or certain when you call. You do not need to know whether you want parenting, adoption, or another path. You do not need a polished explanation for your feelings.

Our job is not to pressure you. Instead, our job is to listen.

Who Answers the Phone?

At All About U Adoptions, you are speaking with real people who understand how emotional unexpected pregnancy situations can feel. Likely, Coleen will answer the call or Kris. The real people that you will later meet IRL.

You are not calling a cold call center. We are not trying to “sell” adoption. You are speaking with compassionate professionals who genuinely care about women facing difficult moments.

The tone of the conversation is calm, supportive, and judgment free. Most women are surprised by how normal the conversation feels once it starts.

What We Usually Ask During the First Conversation

One of the biggest fears women have is being interrogated or pressured during the first call. In reality, the questions are usually simple and focused on understanding how we can support you. We may ask:

  • How Far Along Are You?

If you know how far along you are, that helps us understand what kind of support or information may be helpful. If you are unsure, that is completely okay too.

  • Are You Safe?

Your emotional and physical safety matter deeply. If you are in a dangerous relationship or unstable situation, we want to help you access support and resources safely.

  • What Are You Feeling Right Now?

Some women already feel strongly about adoption. Others feel confused and simply want information. Many are overwhelmed and trying to process everything all at once.

There are no “right” answers.

  • What Questions Do You Have?

You can ask absolutely anything.

Some women ask about open adoption. Others ask about financial assistance, hospital plans, birth father rights, adoption laws, or whether they can continue school or work during pregnancy. Many simply ask, “What happens next?”

That first conversation is about giving you information, not pushing you toward a decision.

What We Do Not Ask

Many women fear judgment before they even pick up the phone. At All About U Adoptions, we are not here to shame you, pressure you, or criticize your situation.

  • We are not going to lecture you about how you got pregnant.
  • We are not going to demand that you commit to an adoption plan immediately.
  • We are not going to pressure you into choosing adoptive families before you are ready.
  • We are not going to force you into open adoption if that feels overwhelming.

Most importantly, we are not going to treat you like your emotions are inconvenient. You deserve compassion during this moment, not pressure.

You Do Not Have to Decide Anything During the First Call

This is one of the biggest misconceptions women carry. Calling an adoption agency does not mean you are officially choosing adoption. It means you are gathering information. That is healthy and responsible.

Many women contact us early in an unplanned pregnancy simply because they want to understand all their options. Some women decide parenting feels right for them. Others move forward with creating an adoption plan. Some take time before making any decisions at all.

You remain in control of your choices. At All About U Adoptions, we believe informed decisions are the healthiest decisions.

What Happens After the Call?

Every woman’s situation looks different, so the next steps depend entirely on your comfort level. Some women want to keep talking immediately because they finally feel heard. Others need time to process emotions privately before speaking again. If you want ongoing support, we may help you:

  • Learn More About Adoption

We can explain the adoption process in simple, honest language so you understand your options clearly.

  • Explore Open, Semi Open, or Closed Adoption

Many women are relieved to learn there are different types of adoption plans depending on comfort level and emotional needs.

  • Discuss Practical Support

Pregnancy can create stress involving housing, transportation, medical care, work, school, or emotional support. We help women navigate those concerns compassionately and legally.

  • Create a Personalized Adoption Plan

If adoption begins to feel right for you, we help you build a plan around your wishes, boundaries, and goals.

Nothing moves forward without your involvement and consent.

It Is Okay if You Feel Scared

Many women think they need to “have it together” before reaching out. The truth is that most women contact us during some of the most emotional moments of their lives. Fear, confusion, panic, sadness, numbness, and uncertainty are all incredibly normal.

X You do not need perfect words.

X You do not need a final decision.

X You do not need to know exactly what you want yet.

X You simply deserve a safe place to start.

You Deserve Information Without Pressure

Facing an unplanned pregnancy can make the future feel blurry and overwhelming. The fear of being judged or pressured often keeps women isolated longer than they need to be. At All About U Adoptions, we believe asking questions should feel safe.

Your first call with us is not about convincing you to choose adoption. It is about helping you feel informed, supported, and less alone while you explore your options.

If you are considering adoption in South Dakota, adoption in North Dakota, or adoption in Nebraska, our compassionate team is here to listen without judgment and help you move forward one step at a time.
